App Store Updates

The EU has implemented a new rule known according to the policy of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). With this new rule, Apple is making some changes. They’re going to allow other app stores on the iPhone. So, after iOS 17.4, you’ll be able to download apps from places other than the usual App Store. But remember, this change is only happening in 27 European Union (EU) countries.

It’s important to know that the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) feature will be activated no matter where you downloaded the app from. This functionality prevents selected apps from collecting your data and transmitting it to the developer.

Now iPhone users have the option to switch their default web browser from Safari to alternatives like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Additionally, Apple is introducing more payment options for the App Store, but this feature is currently limited to the EU. Furthermore, users in the EU will soon be able to utilize their iPhone’s NFC chip for making contactless payments.

Apple Podcasts Written Versions

iOS 17.4 makes podcasts easier to understand. Sometimes, listening to a podcast when you missed something and have to rewind, then in this situation you won’t have to worry about that anymore with the iOS 17.4 beta officially released. That’s because Apple is introducing podcast transcripts in the Podcast app. As you listen, the feature transcribes the podcast in real-time and shows the text on your screen. It’s like having subtitles for podcasts, whether they’re short or hours long. Apple is giving transcripts in Spanish, German, French, and English, but they’ll be adding more episodes and languages soon.

New Fresh Emojis

iOS 17.4 beta has added more than 100 new emojis, which will also come to the regular update. These include a broken chain, a head that shakes both up and down and side to side, and a phoenix. Some of these emojis were already on Android phones, but now iPhone users are getting them too.

Siri Reads Messages in Many Languages

In iOS 17.4, Apple changed the name “Automatically SendMessages” to “Messaging with iOS.” Now, Siri can read your messages in different languages, not just English or your chosen one. Simply tap “Add Language” to select your preferred language, and Siri will read messages in that language.

Improved Protection for Stolen Devices

iOS 17.3 introduced a useful Apple feature called Stolen Device Protection. It adds a one-hour security delay when someone tries to access certain settings like password updates. Users can set this delay to activate automatically or when the phone is in an unfamiliar location. In iOS 17.4 beta 1, there are additional fixes to prevent phone and data theft.

New CarPlay Features

Apple introduces eight new CarPlay apps in iOS 17.4 beta version. One such addition is ‘Auto Settings,’ enabling access to linked iPhone and vehicle settings. Another is the ‘Trips’ function, showing driving-related details like energy efficiency, fuel economy, and total time elapsed. Additionally, the ‘Closures’ feature displays vehicle warning symbols and alerts if any doors are open.

The ‘Media’ app lets you access all FM/AM and related capabilities through CarPlay. The Tire Pressure app shows the current tire pressure on each wheel and alerts you if there’s a flat tire. Also, the ‘Car Camera’ feature allows you to access rear-view and other camera feeds via CarPlay.

The ‘Climate’ app gives you details on heated seats and automotive climate control, such as air conditioning and heating, as well as heated steering wheels and other temperature-related features. The ‘Charge’ app shows the current battery level, time remaining until fully charged, charging status, and more.
